POSITION TITLE: Programs Manager

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director


  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, supervises the Head Gardener, and programs staff
  • Builds community relevance and engagement for Lougheed House and its vision and mandate, by planning, facilitating, executing and evaluating programs, experiences and events, including all adult, family and school programs
  • Evaluates programs based on performance against mandates/objectives, and cost effectiveness, while striving to continually increase the quality of all program delivery and ensure high quality visitor experiences
  • Determines new program opportunities, visitor trends, and potential for growing community outreach opportunities
  • Manages and oversees the Lougheed House team in all aspects of programs, including strategic planning, promotion, and development, from conception to execution
  • Recruits, selects, inspires, leads and manages staff, interns, and volunteers to consistently and skilfully provide high quality programs and experiences
  • Develops strategies and tactics in order to execute against and meet agreed upon targets for program visitation and revenue
  • Manages and oversees the volunteer program, including the development of a long-term strategy to grow the program, design and delivery, all recruitment, and evaluation of program success
  • Develops and manages the programs and volunteer budget in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Works collaboratively with all staff on site-wide initiatives


  • Post-Secondary degree preferred with an emphasis or concentration in education, museum studies or a related field
  • 4+ years of programs management experience, including the development and implementation of programs and volunteer management
  • Demonstrated passion for history and experience working in a museum or historical site is preferred
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information and act with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Ability to represent Lougheed House with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner
  • Ability to work with colleagues, the Board, contractors, the public, Lougheed House stakeholders, donors, and volunteers
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, autonomously and independently
  • Demonstrated “roll up the sleeves” mentality
  • Ability to build relationships and credibility with key stakeholders (colleagues, the Board, contractors, the public, donors, and volunteers)
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and live the values of Lougheed House
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, teams, mentoring staff and a team of volunteers
  • Demonstrated proficiency working in Microsoft Office Suite (including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential
  • A self-starter with a demonstrated initiative, organizational skills, a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines while balancing competing priorities

JOB LOCATION: Calgary, Alberta

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time (with benefits) | Permanent (37.5 hours per week with some evenings and weekends, as required).  A flexible approach is required to meet the needs of our donors, clients and business.
