Wellspring Calgary is an organization which responds personally to those who have been touched by cancer.  We offer programs, services and resources intended to provide those living with cancer and those who care for them, with a variety of effective ways to manage the impact of a cancer diagnosis, treatment effects and recovery.  We are part of a network of Wellspring Centres across Canada.  All of our programs and services are offered free of charge and without need for referral.

 The Opportunity:                                                                                                                                             

We are looking for a Program Director to play a key role in the strategy, development, and execution of our programs, services and resources in two Calgary locations and a planned expansion throughout southern Alberta.  The Program Director oversees the development of the roster of Wellspring Calgary programs including recruitment, screening, training and ongoing development of a team of facilitators to ensure that there is exemplary leadership to service our members. The Director works closely with a Program Committee as well as our members, volunteers, community partners, facilitators, speakers, academics and medical staff to bring the roster of programs to bear.


  • Post-secondary degree in education, continuing education, business, or social science;
  • Ten years of experience in voluntary sector or educational setting;
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Raiser’s Edge and comfort learning other applications;
  • Highly organized, with very good problem solving skills and attention to detail;
  • A strong, successful background in program development and execution, remote program experience an asset;
  • Successful track record in building and leading a team;
  • Superior organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize a heavy workload, remain flexible, and have fun;
  • A strong commitment to responsive, compassionate, community supports;
  • Warm, professional demeanor including exceptional written and verbal communication skills, diplomacy, and integrity;
  • A respect for, and commitment to, collaboration


Key activities and responsibilities include:

  • Program planning and development including: the creation of a long-term program plan; researching and recommending new programs based on emerging needs; and the development of programs, as required
  • Program management including the recruitment, training, evaluation, and development of a team of facilitators
  • Community Outreach / Collaborative planning – program promotion, bringing community partners together, bringing programs to members in other locations across southern Alberta
  • Program reporting: ensuring that data and reports are strategically used to improve program delivery and that donors are stewarded through appropriate reporting
  • Strategic financial and administrative management
  • Evaluation and quality review
