Program Development Associate

Established in 1955, The Calgary Foundation helps create a giving and caring community by working in partnership with others to identify community needs and facilitate philanthropy for the long term benefit of Calgary and area.

The Calgary Foundation (TCF) is a“360 degree grantmaker” supporting charities in all parts of the charitable sector. Serving Calgary and area, TCF makes grants to promote a healthy, vibrant, and diverse community by engaging citizens in community building at all levels, strengthening the charitable sector to accomplish its work effectively, and nurturing a giving and caring community that values collaboration and learning.


The Calgary Foundation (TCF) is seeking a full-time Program Development Associate whose primary role is to gather data and build on this information to communicate opportunities to improve TCF granting practices and results. Assessment of existing granting programs and practices, as well as research, development and implementation of new initiatives, granting programs and special projects are also important. Coordinating specific granting programs as assigned is part of this role.

This is a newly created position reporting to the Vice President, Grants and Community Initiatives, and works closely with other Grant staff to identify trends and emerging community needs and opportunities related to TCF’s current and future granting, and recommend improvements or other changes.

The successful candidate will have:  

  • Experience in a senior role in the charitable sector
  • Knowledge of Calgary’s charitable sector as a whole
  • The ability to focus on researching and implementing new granting and capacity building initiatives and special projects ensuring the results, impact and learning that flow from TCF’s granting and charitable activities are broadly communicated, and assist with identifying and integrating learning practices into TCF’s granting processes
  • The ability to work with other Grants Team members to continually improve TCF granting programs and strategies, supporting the Team in developing TCF strategic plans and optimizing organizational effectiveness
  • The ability to work directly with Calgary and area charities to assess emerging support needs including a broad range of capacity building opportunities that are above and beyond grants
  • Relevant post-secondary education
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with grantmaking and granting databases is essential
