United Way of Calgary and Area is the largest non-government source of funding for human care and community support programs in the Calgary region. United Way of Calgary and Area is looking for a full-time Program Coordinator to join the Signature Initiatives team. Reporting to the Director, Signature Initiatives, the Program Coordinator coordinates, organizes, and assists in managing the All In for Youth, Community Hubs, Financial Empowerment, and Natoo’si projects and provides support to the team. This position works closely with internal and external stakeholders, volunteers, committees, and senior members of the community. The Program Coordinator manages and coordinates highly confidential and critical materials while maintaining a focused composure in an environment of constantly changing priorities and applies independent thinking and problem solving. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project management and coordination as determined by the Director. Creates and tracks project timelines/work back schedules, and assigns tasks.
  • Manages and coordinates reporting for Signature Initiatives. Assists with reporting production – writing, editing, formatting, and compiling content.
  • Develops presentation materials, reference materials, and other collateral adhering to the initiatives’ and United Way’s brand standards.
  • Assists in monitoring the budgets for All In for Youth, Community Hubs, Financial Empowerment, and Natoo’si. Processes invoices, prepares cheque requisitions, coordinates contracts, and prepares monthly financial reporting including expense statements and Visa reconciliation.
  • Plans, organizes, and executes small-scale and large-scale events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Coordinates and manages the convening of the Council of Champions. Assists the Director and community co-leaders in determining the Council’s direction and strategies.
  • Liaises with other departments and works cross-functionally to ensure initiative needs are being met.
  • Participates in high-level process management.
  • Provides support to the Signature initiatives team.


Experience and Skills:

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and able to display a professional manner in working interpersonally, including the ability to organize others.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while coping with changing priorities, demanding deadlines, and disruptions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage priorities, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Innovative outlook; seeks more effective ways of doing things and takes initiative to implement.
  • Ability to positively manage diversity in the workplace and the community.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate required
  • Training in project management or coordination an asset
  • A minimum of one year of project or program coordination experience
