Program Coordinator - 52nd (18 Months)

Program Coordinator – 52nd Street Family Learning & Play Centre -Full time maternity leave coverage: 18 months, with benefits

The Program Coordinator role supports the Families Matter vision by ensuring that the Family Center offers a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment and provides a skilled and energetic team toimplement parent-child activities that build confidence, competence and connection. The Family Centre

Coordinator schedules and implements program offerings at the Family Centre, and oversees a team of three Child & Family Support Workers as well as Child Care volunteers and practicum students.

Key Responsibilities

• Under the guidance of the Manager of Family Centres and working within a collaborative team of three Family Centre Coordinators, develop and implement programming that includes parentchild drop-in sessions and parent-child group activities that promote development, learning and relationship-building.

• Support the Family Centre staff and volunteers in delivering quality programming for children and families, and oversee the daily logistics of program implementation.

• Create and maintain an engaging, inclusive, safe and playful environment in the Family Centre environment for participants.

• Generate a monthly schedule of Centre activities and a monthly newsletter to circulate to families.

• Ensure the use of outcome measures and the regular collection/entry of data in our client data base to track the program benefits for children and families (e.g. Parent Satisfaction Surveys,Ages and Stages Questionnaires, etc.)

• Identify opportunities for program growth and new initiatives.

• Participate as an active member of the agency Leadership team.

• Provide regular supervision and coaching to Family Center staff, and promote learning opportunities for the team.

• Engage in collaboration with other teams at Families Matter and with other agencies and service providers in the community.

 

Qualifications

• A Diploma or Degree in a Human Services-related field is required with a minimum of 5 years of experience with direct support to families with young children

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a position with leadership responsibilities

• A minimum of 1 year of experience leading a staff team 2

• Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and its implementation

• Experience working in an Emergent Curriculum early learning environment with preschool-aged children (newborn to five)

• Experience with early childhood developmental screening and parenting support

• Experience providing site-based group programming for families, and facilitating parent-child group learning sessions (e.g. Mother Goose program)

• Understanding of the ‘Strengthening Families’ approach is an asset

 

Skills and Abilities

• Cultural competence and sensitivity in dealing with a diverse population of families

• Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with families, staff and volunteers

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management, and organizing abilities

• Proficient computer skills and experience using a client data base

• Creativity, energy and a sense of playfulness

 

Other Requirements

• Must complete a criminal record check and a child intervention check with satisfactory results

• Must have a driver’s license and a reliable vehicle

• Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level B certification

Salary: $47,000 to $50,000 per year
