Potential Place Generalist & Housing Coordinator



Standard # 9 states that: Clubhouse Staff have generalist roles. All clubhouse staff shares employment, housing, evening, weekend and unit responsibilities. Clubhouse staff do not divide their time between clubhouse and other major work responsibilities.



Position Details of Housing Coordination Role


Qualifying Tenants

Meeting with members who wish to apply for housing through the PP Housing program. Reviewing the tenancy agreement with applicants and ensuring all documentation is completed properly. Ensuring source of rent payment as well as following up with references, assigned workers, trustees, family members and such.


Accessing if applicant is a suitable candidate for independent living, that access of guardian(s) or worker(s) is available, consideration of other tenant comments of applicant and conclusion after speaking with other staff and designated building representative.


Securing Units

Once applicant is qualified, ensuring that applicant understands and agrees to PP policies, tenancy agreement, federal and provincial codes and all legal and safety compliances.Monthly rent and damage deposit to be collected and banked. Ensure that all documentation is signed and filed in its proper location.


Contract Reviews/Amendments

Reviewing, revising and drafting forms and documents for the improvement of PP Housing operations.




Maintenance of properties will be via professional contractors once the housing coordinator has determined the work needed to be done and confirmed by the Executive Director. Urgent matters of safety will be addressed immediately and the Executive Director must be updated within 24 hours when such an event occurs.



The Housing Coordinator or his designated backup will be available during regular business hours as well as outside of business hours.



Notices of Unit inspections, Eviction Notices and other Housing related notices will be drafted by the Housing Coordinator for signature by the ED or his designate.


Potential Place

The Housing Coordinator shall participate, as best as possible, in all PP activities in the Clubhouse units when not directly working on Housing matters.


Member Support and Advocacy

Advocating on behalf of members living and not living in Potential Place Housing; this may include aiding in the drafting of defences (not as a professional advocate), supporting (only) while member is attending tribunal/court and so forth. The Housing coordinator will professionally navigate the dual role of landlord and tenant advocate at all times. This may necessitate calling the tenant`s family members, Alberta Health Services (AHS), The Mobile Response Team (MRT), Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or other supports.


Member representatives from each building unit shall, on a volunteer basis, assist with document processing, rent collection and member advocacy. Volunteers will be expected to sign confidentiality statements with respect to information obtained on or about unit-dwelling members.


Other Unit Responsibilities

Education Unit

The development and promotion of a program to aid members in achieving a higher level of education, to aid members in T.E.s, Potential Placements, Potential Finance – with the objective being to give an opportunity to members to achieve a higher standard of living.


Transitional Employment (T.E.)

The (HC) will aid in the expansion of the T.E.P.


Potential Placement (fulltime employment agency project)

The development and promotion of a program to aid members in obtaining long-term supported as well as independent employment.



Position Requirements

Social Work diploma or equivalent and a thorough understanding of Residential Tenancies Regulation, Tenancy Dispute Resolution, Security Deposit Regulation, Subsidized Public Housing Regulation and all other relevant laws and regulations pertaining to housing or a reasonable combination of experience and education as may be specified by the ED from time to time.A valid driver’s licence is required as is a favorable criminal record check.


Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to attend a paid,  2 -3 week, possibly out of the country - ICCD Clubhouse Employment training course
  • Willingness to work Saturdays as required from 10: am – 3:00 PM
  • Willingness to work Fridays as required from 1:00 PM – 8:30 PM during a 37.5 hour work week.
