Marketing & Communications Coordinator

We’re looking for a full-time Marketing & Communications Coordinator based in our Calgary office to support the activities of our staff and stakeholders. You’ll join a dedicated team that skilfully works to support and promote the nonprofit sector as a whole, and CCVO’s member organizations.

We’re seeking an energetic communications professional with a strong marketing aptitude to execute our external communications strategy and provide outstanding support to our staff team. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will share stories of CCVO and the sector, manage social media, write and design digital communications, and copy edit a variety of resources, event communications, and research for Calgary’s nonprofit sector. You are skilled at creating the right message for specific audiences, and have an ability to make basic communication pieces look great. The Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (CCVO) is a mission-driven organization that works to promote and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Calgary and beyond. We give voice to critical issues affecting the nonprofit sector; connect organizations to the information they need; develop practical resources; and build connections between organizations to facilitate learning, sharing of resources, and action on common issues.  We offer three weeks vacation annually, RRSP contributions, a competitive salary and benefits package, and the occasional potluck lunch.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, post, monitor, and engage audiences on social media (LinkedIn, FB, Twitter, blog).
  • Manage layout and content for the bi-weekly email bulletin; requires design aptitude, media scanning and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Manage content, scheduling, and distribution of all digital communications.
  • Work closely with CCVO staff to support the planning, promotion, and implementation of CCVO programs, including policy and government relations, capacity building workshops, membership engagement, donor relations, and events.
  • Support the production of print and digital materials including the annual report and research publications.
  • Create presentations, speaking notes, and event briefing notes as required.
  • Complete content updates and design enhancements to the website.
  • Support media relations, including writing and distributing press releases.
  • Maintain contact lists in accordance with privacy laws.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience, knowledge, and strong interest in working in the nonprofit sector is essential.
  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience in communications or marketing, both print and digital.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and is highly articulate with demonstrated knowledge and skills in writing for different audiences and across channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with extensive collaboration and interaction with colleagues and other organizations in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience in a variety of communications mediums, website design and maintenance, email marketing and layout, social media, proofreading, copyediting, and public relations.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills; strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Interest and experience in working with a CRM and/or database.
  • Knowledge of Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL) as it relates to non-profit organizations.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular office hours.
