Functional Statement:
To plan, develop and deliver the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada Program based on the experience, social context, interests, abilities and life goals of the newcomer learners.


  • Assess and identify learners’ needs.
  •  To facilitate a curriculum for assigned program with reference to LINC Curriculum Guidelines and Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Report on learners’ progress and evaluate the program regularly with the learners to assess if it is meeting their language and integration needs
  • Work collaboratively with a team of instructors and settlement workers in achieving the program goals
  • Conduct formative and summative assessment and maintain appropriate documentation of student progress
  • Develop and maintain a positive and anti-biased classroom atmosphere where participants feel welcome
  • Regularly use a range of available ESL computer software to enhance student learning experience.
  • Supervise class field trips and guest speakers on relevant topics with other departments
  • Maintain accurate program records and statistics and prepare lesson plans and other required reports in a timely manner
  • Actively participate in regular team and individual supervision meetings with the LINC Coordinator
  • Assist in outreach activities and the recruitment, placement and referral of LINC clients
  • Assist the program coordinator  in supervising volunteers and TESL students if required



  • Relevant University Degree and current ATESL Certification
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience
  • Understanding the principles of adult education and the needs of immigrants
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Thorough understanding of the LINC Curriculum Guidelines and Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Ability to research ESL resources and design original teaching aids and materials
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge and understanding of PBLA required.
