Janitor - Relief

Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta is seeking a Janitor in Calgary, with some experience or understanding of the work involved in the not-for-profit senior sector. The successful candidate will work at our Peter Coyle Place (PCP) assisted living facility. Please note that this position is relief (as needed) and will not work a regular schedule.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Tenant Resource Coordinator and indirectly to the Program Manager, the Janitor is responsible for the overall cleanliness and safety of Peter Coyle Place. This job requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve goals as directed by Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Rooms

  • Daily cleaning of resident rooms including bed preparation, towel changing, dusting of furniture and fixtures
  • Removal/sorting of linen/garbage/recycling
  • Respond to resident incontinence and follow proper cleaning procedures
  • Attending to laundry tasks as required

Common Areas

  • Clean and disinfect washroom facilities
  • Ensure cleanliness of all common areas, offices, elevator, stairwells and flooring
  • Washing of windows, interior walls, handrails and doors
  • Clean and disinfect all dining area tables and chairs


  • Actively participate in various committees and training sessions
  • Order chemical and paper products as required, maintaining inventory controls
  • Actively participate and promote the Health and Safety Program
  • Ensure equipment is kept in good working order



  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • WHMIS (Workplace Hazards Management Information System) certificate


  • 1-2 years (prior experience in an assisted living facility considered an asset)
  • Current first aid certificate

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to lift heaving objects (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Fluent English (written and verbal)
  • Experience working with corrosive and non-corrosive chemicals
  • Accept responsibility and manage crises effectively
  • Flexibility and versatility in a constantly changing environment
  • Receptive understanding of individual needs/abilities and a genuine concern for all people
