“People at Connections have helped keep our family together. I don’t know where we’d be without you.”

In-Home Support Team
Full-Time and/or Permanent Part-time
(min. 24 hours per week)

Connections has helped strengthen families for 28 years. We are continuing to grow because of demand for services and increased funder support. Full-time (37.5 hrs per week) or part-time (min. 24 hours per week) is negotiable. Connections’ In-Home Support team provides families in which a parent has a cognitive challenge with strengths-based support to establish and maintain safe and nurturing homes for their children.

Compensation and Benefits: Starting salary is $22.50 per hour and there are increases after three months’ probation and/or the one-year anniversary. We also offer a small caseload, schedule flexibility, health benefits and a supportive environment where you can work independently but count on the support of a team atmosphere.

Responsibilities:  This role requires building and managing trusting relationships with families in order to provide parenting support in the clients’ homes by modelling behaviour, through parenting skills education, support at appointments and in the community, and advocacy. Helping the parent define their goals, developing a plan and building on the family’s strengths and self-reliance to be successful parents are all part of the role. In addition, the role requires assessing the child/children’s safety, and working with other agencies either on behalf of the parents, or, from time to time, to intervene for the children’s safety. The role requires completing evaluation, reports and administrative forms as required.

Qualifications:  We are seeking a person whose experience and expertise will complement those of the team and whose values and professionalism are a good fit with Connections' culture. Experience with people who are parents and who have complex issues, including developmental disability (or FASD, brain injury or other) is important. Familiarity with Disability Services, Children's Services and, more generally, Calgary’s social services is beneficial. Creativity to source or adapt teaching tools to match the client’s learning style is key. Maturity and accountability are required for judgment and to balance the need to work independently, yet contribute as part of a team.

You must have completed an academic program in social work, disabilities studies or a related field. You must also have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and a safe driving record. As well you will need to pass Police and Child Welfare records checks.

Connections’ website at www.connectionscounselling.ab.ca provides additional information about the agency, our families and our work.

Please submit a cover letter and resume by email only to [email protected] Indicate whether you are interested in full-time or part-time in the email subject. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.

We look forward to welcoming a new team member into the Connections family.
