Human Resource Advisor

 

Discovery House is a trusted, dynamic Calgary agency devoted to the safety and well-being of women with children leaving domestic violence. We offer stability, hope and opportunity through long-term residential and individualized community support which result in healthier families and stronger communities.  We are looking for an experienced HUMAN RESOURCE ADVISOR who is a strong, ethical leader and will help us provide exceptional support for our clients by building our team and their strengths. The Human Resource Advisor will support Discovery House’s mandate and strategic direction through the provision of a continuum of human resource strategies, supports and services.   This will include leading the development and management of programs designed to attract, engage and retain a high performing workforce consisting of both paid staff and volunteers.   We provide worklife flexibility, opportunity to develop your strengths and a great team to work with. This position is 30-40 hours per week and reports to the Executive Director. Duties and responsibilities include:  - Developing and implementing creative recruitment and retention strategies according to agency program and service requirements and consistent with organizational culture. - Overseeing the continuum HR processes, from recruitment to exit of employees and volunteers including position postings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, completing reference checks, supporting orientation and performance review processes, conducting exit interviews, etc. - Identifies strategies and practices designed to maintain positive workplace relations and a high level of employee and volunteer morale and motivation. - Apply holistic approach to HR by applying knowledge of HR policies, procedures, practices and legislation to situations in a timely and effective manner.  Incumbent will have:  - Formal training in Human Resource Management plus a related undergraduate degree; a CHRP designation is desirable. - Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions. - Experience or training in labour relations, employment standards and labour trends. - Familiarity with the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
