Housing Coach

Home Stay Prevention Program Full -Time (37.5 hours/week)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Housing Coach within the Home Stay Prevention Program. 

The Housing Coach is responsible for providing community education related to homelessness prevention strategies and supporting families in precarious housing to understand their rights and options. The families may be losing housing due to rental/utility arrears, may require re-housing support and/or landlord advocacy to achieve stability in housing.  The program works closely with community resources to connect families and support them in housing location, case management, systems navigation that increases capacity and sustainability. The program is guided by the framework and goals set out in Calgary’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

The key responsibilities and accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Gain knowledge of the rights in relation to the Landlord & Tenant Act and provide ongoing education opportunities for both community service providers and families
  • Promote and educate the community regarding homelessness prevention and diversion initiatives
  • Facilitate education sessions in the community regarding housing retention and homelessness prevention
  • Engage community service providers and support key relationships to build community capacity regarding family homelessness prevention and diversion
  • Consult with and guide community and agency service providers regarding family homelessness prevention resources and supports
  • Conduct regular housing searches to compile and maintain an active housing inventory
  • Engage with various landlords throughout the city focusing on marketing the program and networking to create strong working relationships
  • Educate and build families’ capacity to locate and secure housing
  • Consult with program staff to gather pertinent information related to housing needs of families 
  • Act as a contact for landlords providing liaison and advocacy support
  • Work closely with program staff to ensure families and landlords are supported
  • Collaborate with the Sustainable Families Program Housing Liaison to coordinate the housing efforts of both programs
  • Collaborate with Housing Coaches in sector 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

This role requires our ideal candidate to possess at minimum the following:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Skills in facilitation, systems navigation, knowledge of local resources 
  • Direct experience in Landlord/Tenancy knowledge an asset
  • Experience working with individuals, families, and teams from a strength based approach
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced work environment
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Required training: Aboriginal, Diversity, Outcomes, etc. 

Prerequisites:

  • Police Check, Intervention Record Check, Driver’s Abstract
  • Suicide Intervention and First Aid

Salary:                       $43,384 per annum (Negotiable based on skills, knowledge and experience).
