Grants Officer 

Carthy Foundation is seeking a Grants Officer to join their team.  This is an ideal position for a motivated individual who enjoys a dynamic range of activities and wishes to support positive change in Canada.  The Grants Officer will assist in identifying innovative initiatives, will develop strong relationships and partnerships with colleagues and associates, and will have the opportunity for professional development and growth.

Located in Calgary, Alberta, Carthy Foundation is a philanthropic foundation established in 1965.  The foundation provides grants to charitable initiatives across Canada with focused interests in youth (adolescent emotional health and wellness, transitions to employment for youth and young adults), and the environment (urban environmental sustainability and environmentally sustainable agriculture). Responsibilities and Duties

a) Contribute to development of funding strategies and approaches.

b) Assist in the identification of projects and initiatives for funding consideration; this will include vetting inquiries and proposals, as well as proactively seeking opportunities.

c) Provide overall support during the grant application process: assist the applicant, review proposals, identify external reviewers, and prepare recommendations.

d) Support the monitoring of funded projects: review progress reports, provide feedback, conduct site visits and interviews, and surface learnings.

e) Conduct periodic research and scans to identify key stakeholders and initiatives relevant to the foundation’s funding interests. 

f) Identify, develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with a cross section of organizations, experts, and other key stakeholders both locally and nationally.

g) Track trends, research, policies and other developments in the foundation’s funding areas.

h) Provide project management support and coordination to foundation initiatives.

i) Assist in the preparation and presentation of a variety of reports and materials.

General Requirements

The ideal candidate will have 6-9 years of work experience in youth development, community development, the non-profit sector, or grantmaking.   The applicant will have the following skills, competencies and credentials:

a) Superior communication skills and a facilitative, empathetic style in dealing with colleagues, applicants, and grantees.

b) Able to establish and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships and partnerships in the community.

c) Project management experience, including budgeting, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and financial tracking.

d) Strong research and analytical skills; able to synthesize large volumes of information, prepare reports, and make recommendations.

e) Exemplary writing skills.

f) Strong facilitation and presentation skills, including experience with diverse groups.

g) Solid computer and administrative skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Databases).

h) Energetic, proactive, resourceful, reliable and able to work as a self-sufficient member of a small team.

i) Enthusiastic and curious about social and environmental issues and committed to making positive change.

j) Impeccable integrity, discretion and confidentiality.

k) University degree from an accredited institution.
