Fund Development Associate

We are seeking a Fund Development (FD) Associate  who will be responsible for supporting the philanthropic activities of the organization. The FD Associate builds and cultivates relationships with prospective and current donors as well as a diverse group of community stakeholders. This position is a member of the Community Relations Team and works collaboratively with employees, funders and community organizations to develop and nurture relationships in order to facilitate the achievement of our vision and mission and to achieve the goals of the strategic plan.

This is a full-time position (35 hours a week) working Monday to Friday.  A flexible schedule and ability to work evenings and weekends is required. Some inner-city travel may be necessary. This position will be located in the Calgary office and will report directly to the Director or Community Relations. A criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector search, will be requested.

Key Accountabilities

Fund Development

  • In collaboration with the Community Relations team, implement a comprehensive fund development plan, including achieving annual goals for contributed income.
  • Implement appropriate fundraising strategies for current and new corporate and individual donors, planned giving, in-kind donations and specialized campaigns.
  • Research and prepare grant proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure service excellence, fiscal accountability and strong outcomes.
  • Act as an ambassador of the organization and practice ethical fundraising in keeping with the mission and values of HIV Community Link and in accordance with charitable giving standards.
  • Maintain the donor database and records.
  • Identification, cultivation, soliciting and stewardship of donors and sponsors.
  • Implement donor recognition strategies.
  • Works closely with the Director, Community Relations to ensure records and processes are in place.

Community Relations and Events

  • Work with the Director, Community Relations and the Volunteer and Events Coordinator to support community relations activities including building and sustaining relationships with current, new and potential organizations and individuals.
  • Provide support to secure in-kind and event sponsorships.
  • Support the implementation of internal and third-party fundraising and awareness events.

Qualifications/ Key Competencies


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Fundraising, Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • Three or more years of nonprofit fund development experience and a proven track record of outstanding results.
  • Experience in financial and impact reporting back to funders.
  • Experience with fundraising databases.
  • Solid experience in business development and proven ability to develop strategies.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Experience in the non-profit sector or healthcare setting preferred.


  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships and stewardships both internally and externally with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting annual fundraising goals, grant writing and sponsorships.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Goal-oriented, persistent and persuasive in the contact, follow-through and completion of acquiring gifts and sponsorships.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, both individually and in public speaking capacities.
