Family Support Coordinator (Temporary Contract)


The Calgary SCOPE Society is a non-profit agency improving lives for persons with developmental disabilities in Calgary and area for over 30 years.  SCOPE works with children, adults, seniors and families as respected, contributing members of Calgary’s communities.

Mission: The Calgary SCOPE Society works in alliance with people with disabilities, their families and friends, and other community members to understand problems and create solutions to personal and social justice issues. 


Position Description:

The Calgary SCOPE Society is seeking a Family Support Coordinator for a one year  temporary position (September 2018 - October 2019). Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Family Support Coordinator provides in home support to families raising a child 0-18 with a developmental disability experiencing barriers to accessing services. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide in home support to families raising a child with a developmental disability aged 0 to 18.
  • Work collaboratively with families in their homes to assist with service coordination based on their child’s needs.
  • Collect and maintain current, comprehensive information and documentation on each family served.
  • Liaise with other agencies and professionals in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts for community development.
  • Develop and facilitate skill-based groups for youth and adolescents with a developmental disability.


  • Diploma or degree in social work, psychology or related human service discipline along with 2+ years of experience working with children and/or families with disabilities and mental health concerns.  
  • Working knowledge of community resources and an understanding of Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD).   
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proven ability to facilitate groups for youth and adolescents.
  • Proficiency with using current technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with individuals, families and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and a dynamic and fluctuating workload.
  • Training and/or Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, First Aid, CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention considered an asset.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and ability to obtain adequate level of insurance.
  • Current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Check

This position provides the opportunity for a flexible work schedule that will require evening availability.
