Executive Director

The Okotoks Food Bank Association (OFBA) is a Christian founded, community supported registered charity providing emergency food assistance to local families in need. We have been able to assist over 15,000 individuals since founding through the faithful work of over 300 volunteers and staff, and the generous donations of individuals, community organizations and businesses, local churches and food drives.

The mission of the OFBA is “To provide a caring ministry to individuals and households through emergency food assistance and to serve as a resource to guide them towards self sufficiency”

Reporting to the Board of Directors (Board), the Executive Director is responsible for the operational leadership and management of the OFBA, in accordance with the mission, vision, and policies set by the Board.

The Executive Director ensures the progress of the organization’s programs. The Executive Director sustains strong and supportive relationships with donors, the media, religious and business communities, the public, Food Banks Canada and Food Banks Alberta networks, government, and other human service agencies. The Executive Director maintains a collaborative and accountable relationship with the Board and organizational staff members.

  • As directed by the Board, serve as a spokesperson for the organization, communicating OFBA’s purpose and programs to the public and the partner agencies
  • Manage day-to-day office operations efficiently and effectively
  • Daily staff supervision including hiring, position descriptions, scheduling, terminating, and reviewing performance
  • Ensure that relationships with clients, donors, volunteers, and the community-at-large are handled in a manner consistent with organizational values, mission, and strategic objectives
  • Be the primary contact to donors to help achieve the financial goals of the OFB. Lead a robust fundraising plan to sustain and expand the work of the organization. Develop and maintain strong donor/community partnerships and grant applications
  • Implement all board policies at the operational level
  • Attend Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting providing monthly reports, data and informed advice to the Board
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments on behalf of the organization
  • Ensures all current legal, health and safety standards are met in the workplace
  • Oversees the OFBA website, social media platforms and advertising and updates the “High Priority Needs” list weekly
  • Follow-up as necessary regarding confidential assessment and screening of OFBA clients including collaborating with other agencies

Preferred Minimum Requirements

  • Compassionately uphold the Food Banks Canada’s Ethical Foodbanking Code
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Strong Organizational and personal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with staff and volunteers
  • Strength in community relations and with donors
  • Able to multi task effectively
  • Able to accommodate varied hours of work including evenings and weekends
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable transportation
  • Must have a recent Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and/or be willing to provide one
  • Ability to handle light-moderate lifting
