Event Specialist

Event Specialist (40 hours/week)

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Director, Resource Development, the Events Specialist will work along with the Resource Development Team to reach and exceed its strategic fundraising goals for Inn from the Cold.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

The Events Specialist will perform a wide range of duties which may include:

  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all internal and external IFTC events.
  • Supports the planning and presentation of events by receiving and/or making recommendations on program content and organization, ensuring all relevant staff are briefed, overseeing event program development and execution, and engaging in post-event follow up.
  • Prepares pre- and post-event analysis, and assess opportunities and make recommendations for improving service to internal and external constituencies, and implement those improvements as appropriate.
  • Prepares year-end events report, providing analysis and recommendations for future actions and improvements.
  • Assist with logistics for third party events as required; act as a liaison for all individuals and groups holding events on behalf of the Inn.
  • Solicit and grow third party event revenue.
  • Consult with event providers or IFTC staff to set and achieve desired event goals and outcomes.
  • Responsible for the development and fulfillment of event budgets, developed in conjunction with the Director.
  • Coordinate event volunteers, working with Volunteer Resources to ensure adequate staffing, supervision, training, and acknowledgement.
  • Participate in event committees as required.
  • Provide tours or attend cheque presentations, where applicable.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in event management, public relations/marketing, television production, stage management, or related field in combination with 2 - 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Experience in event execution and management for small, medium and large-scale events in preferably not-for-profit, corporate and public sector settings.
  • Experience working with committees, volunteers, partners, sponsors and donors.
  • Must be a pro-active self-starter with the ability to work as part a team and/or independently.
  • Demonstrates solid decision-making skills, ability to set priorities, solve problems and remain calm in stressful situations is critical.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Proven time and fiscal management.
  • Proven to be highly organized, conscientious, detail-oriented, and creative.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required, must be flexible.
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe software suites is required; knowledge and proficiency in the Raisers Edge and NXT will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication; including marketing and communications skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Flexible, discreet,  and able to maintain confidential information.
