Engagement Coordinator Position

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Calgary and Southern Alberta.  With over 30 years of solid community experience, 70 active programs, and comprehensive wraparound support, CCIS ensures that our services respond to the needs of ethnically diverse communities within Calgary and area.

Name of Position: Engagement Coordinator

Reports To: Manager of Family and Children’s Services

Terms of Employment: Full Time – 40 hours/week including occasional evenings and weekends.

This is a one-year maternity leave coverage position, beginning in May 2018

Program Description: CCIS requires an individual to lead in the delivery of programming to help engage recently arrived newcomer children/families.  The Engagement Coordinator is responsible for a variety of programming, including the ESL Adventure! Program and the Children’s Summer Program. These programs, in partnership with the City of Calgary Community & Neighborhood Services, offer recreational and educational activities that enhance social-emotional wellbeing, school readiness, and literacy.  

Position Description:

  • Develop, implement, and participate in community engagement programs for immigrant children/families, including a 9-week full-time children’s summer program and the ESL Adventure! Program during the school year.
  • Plan and schedule guest speakers, field trips, and other activities to supplement program curriculums
  • Provide leadership to staff and volunteers in arranging for instructions/access to programs and facilities and in conducting programming.
  • Publicize programs to CCIS Counselors and immigrant families to encourage participation.
  • Ensure that safety standards and procedures are followed.
  • Liaise with partners (City of Calgary Community & Neighborhood Services, Parks, etc).
  • Work closely with partner agencies that offer support and programming to children and youth and/or vulnerable populations.
  • Identify, initiate and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders.
  • Participate in the preparation of regular, special and statistical reports as required.
  • Develop program policies and procedures if required.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional and cordial relationships at all levels within organization.


  • Completion of a Post-Secondary Education Program with training and experience in recreational/sports programming and/or Teaching English as a Second Language. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in community or recreational programming
  • Demonstrated dynamic leadership through initiative, flexibility and resourcefulness combined with superior communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of community resources
  • Willingness to work select weekends and evenings and to occasionally adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
  • As travel to various program sites in Calgary is necessary, a vehicle is required
