Engagement Assistant (summer student)

With funding from the Federal Government’s Canada Summer Jobs program, Calgary Outlink: Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity is looking for an Engagement Assistant (30 hours/week).  This individual will report to our Executive Director and works on tasks related to event planning, volunteer management and social media.

Calgary Outlink: Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity is Calgary's only dedicated LGBTQ2S+ non-profit serving agency providing peer support, education and resources.  We have been in operation since 1984.  Our mission is to build people up to be resilient and strong in their lives through our peer support model.  To that end, we offer different peer support groups to meet the needs of everyone under the rainbow from our Inside Out Youth Group that provides support for youth who are questioning their sexuality; Trans Families who want to support their loved one who is transitioning, or the LGBTQ2S+ Senior who is facing the uncertainty of old age and seeking support as a gay elder.

The position is perfect for a creative and collaborative individual with a calm demeanor who prides themself on being highly organized, solutions-driven, and motivated for success.

Working with a small team, you will be exposed to a variety of responsibilities in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities Volunteer Management:

  • Assist with inputting donor and volunteer information into a database and ensure database information is up-to-date and free of redundancies
  • Assist with event planning and execution (Stampede Breakfast, Marda Gras, Sunfest, Pride Week and Pride Parade)
  • Recruit Volunteers for events
  • Other duties as required

Primary Responsibilities Social Media:

  • Help maintain organization’s social media channels and implement a content calendar
  • Research and create written, graphic and video content
  • Promote events
  • Create weekly e-newsletters, maintain website as needed

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in social media channels
  • Strong writing skills (sample will be required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Keen attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple and changing priorities
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident and legally entitled to work and study in Canada
  • Attended a high school or post-secondary institution in 2017-18 and returning to school full time in the following school year.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle if called upon
  • Committed to LGBTQ2S+ rights and resiliency
  • Must be able to obtain police clearance for vulnerable sector check

This is a temporary, 8 week summer student position available between June– August, 2018.
