Employment Engagement Officer

Immigrant Services Calgary is seeking a full-time Employer Engagement Officer for the Adult Learning, Literacy and Essential Skills Program: Integrating Key Essential Skills in Newcomer Career Transition in the IT Industry (ALLESP), a collaborative national project that is being implemented in Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. The project aims to enhance the employment integration outcomes of newcomer IT professionals through providing training in occupation-specific literacy and essential skills and engaging employers in the training process. The Employer Engagement Officer will recruit employer partners through cold calls and visits in order to sustain employer engagement. In addition, the officer will support training delivery, training evaluation, assessment and reporting, and will serve as the main contact with employers and the primary channel for collecting data. This position reports to the Project Manager.  

Duties:

  • Network and build partnerships with local employers through cold-calling and site visits
  • Develop and attend events with prospective employers
  • Work with the Project Manager to develop and execute an effective outreach strategy targeting appropriate clientele, and recruit at least 30 employers annually based upon program eligibility requirements
  • Work with the Project Manager to prepare a work placement evaluation report of immigrants and employers to increase repeat business
  • Engage sector councils, professional user groups and prominent executives for the exposure of the program
  • Provide continuous support to existing employers and newcomers; update the participants’ employment status in the database; follow up with employers on a frequent basis and update the team accordingly
  • Produce monthly and annual reports as per program requirements
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Business, Communication, Humanities or related discipline  
  • Minimum 2-3 years of work experience in recruitment related field, with strong knowledge of and connection with the IT field in Calgary
  • Passionate about creative selling and a solid closer; sales and human resources management/job placement experience are absolute assets
  • Strong networking and selling skills, with proven network with local employers
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Thorough understanding of the local labor market, education/training systems and resources; strong knowledge of employment issues and barriers experienced by newcomer professionals in the IT field
  • Well organized, positive, works well under pressure, a proactive team player
  • Advanced user of MS office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project and Access
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and be able to work evenings or weekends on need basis
