At Inn from the Cold (IFTC), our mission is to offer shelter, sanctuary, and healing to assist homeless children and their families achieve independence.  We need passionate, high-performing and solution-oriented team members to achieve our mission and have an exciting and challenging opportunity for the right candidate.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs provides key leadership, vision, and overall management of our client programming and associated staff teams. Overseeing direct reports, the Director of Programs ensures that all program delivery conforms to standards of excellence and supports the advancement of Inn from the Cold’s mandate and mission.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director Programs will perform a wide range of duties which may include:

  • Staff development and supervision of a team of approximately 60 staff members.
  • Scheduling of staff teams and monitoring of all program operations.
  • Senior support for human resource functions including recruitment, hiring, performance evaluation, monitoring and support in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Program design, development, planning oversight and evaluation of the Family Support Program, Outreach, Shelter, Early Childhood Education, Housing, Case Management and Health and Wellness teams.
  • Management of funder relations and reporting requirements in support of the Executive Director.
  • Development, cultivation and stewardship of agency partnerships, networks, and community relationships.
  • Budgetary and contractual duties as they pertain to the funding of program operations.
  • Represent the organization at a variety of network, community meetings and events.
  • Contribute, as an active member of the Leadership Team, in strategic planning, organizational visioning, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support the Executive Director and Director, Resource Development and Director, Communications, in fund development and public relations activities.
  • Promote extensive awareness of Inn from the Cold and maintain excellent relationships with guests, partners, donors and the broader community.
  • Actively promote and implement the mission and mandate of Inn from the Cold.
  • A record of success building staff morale and gaining enthusiastic team participation.
  • Proven track record of building partnerships, relationships and collaborative initiatives.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field
  • Five + years of progressive management experience in the non-profit sector
  • A record of success in building staff morale and gaining enthusiastic team participation
  • Proven track record of building partnerships, relationships and collaborative initiatives
  • Knowledge and experience working with vulnerable and marginalized populations
  • Knowledge and sensitivity related to  Aboriginal cultures
  • Compassion and confidence in working directly with young children and families
  • Experience in an emergency homeless shelter setting is a significant plus
  • Proficiency in using technology for word processing, e-mail, internet, social media, website development and communications
