Director – Resource Development

The Director of Resource Development performs a wide range of complex administrative activities related to communications and funding. The Director of Resource Development works directly with the Executive Director to develop strategic plans addressing Agency Communication and Funding needs. This position combines both managerial and hands on responsibilities, as well as the coordination of a large contingent of volunteers. Areas of accountability include internal and external communications, fund raising, and managing a team of Resource Development employees. Working directly with all departments and programs throughout the Agency, the Director of Resource Development also works in close collaboration with an extensive range of community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and implement the fund raising strategic plan that identifies the Agency’s funding needs.
  • Lead and participate in identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors and funding.
  • Work with the Leadership team to plan, organize and implement programs that will assist in increasing revenue for the Agency programs.
  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved.
  • Lead planning which includes goal setting, strategic planning, benchmarking and evaluation to support resource development.
  • Monitor the trends in the community and region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.
  • Build strong relationships with community stakeholders and donors to advance the fundraising goals of the Agency.
  • Design, lead and manage development programs, including annual campaign, major gifts, fundraising events and donor acquisition.
  • Build capacity and mobilize volunteers and staff with ongoing fundraising projects.
  • Develop and maintain a donor data base.
  • Ensure that fundraising approaches are thoroughly executed in keeping with the Agency’s values, mission, vision and plans in check.
  • Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the resource development plan to generate funds for the Agency.
  • Prepare reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the resource development activities.
  • Direct, plan and coordinate the work of direct reports including supervision and evaluation, training and team building.
  • Coach, provide performance management and development of all direct reports.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University, with Master’s or CFRE preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience in progressive fundraising preferred and leading a team with demonstrated results in securing major gifts and achieving capital campaign results.
  • Experience in a Director level role in the non-profit sector would be considered an asset.
  • Highly competent and forward thinking with all fundraising areas
  • Exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to influence, coach and guide all levels of volunteers and employees through the fundraising process.
  • Ability to organize, motivate and manage large numbers of volunteers, as well as a core team of staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills, capable of working effectively cross departmentally, with board members, volunteers, consultants, and donors/prospects.
  • Exceptional writing, time management, planning and organizational skills, with an emphasis on detail and accuracy.
  • Must be self-motivated, deadline driven and have a strong passion for fundraising.
  • Demonstrate initiative, independence, reliability, and effectiveness in developing creative solutions toward achieving Agency goals.
  • Successful record of establishing and maintaining effective and professional relationships with donors, volunteers, colleagues and direct reports.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills with knowledge in Raiser’s Edge.
