Hospice Calgary guides children, teens and adults through the grieving process as they face a life threatening illness and death of a loved one. Our team of professionals provides individual, family and group support as well as 24-hour end-of-life care. We operate two centres of care: Sage Centre for counselling and education services and Rosedale Hospice for residential end-of-life care.

Rosedale Hospice is our residential end-of-life cancer care facility. It is a quiet, peaceful home where patients and their family and friends are cared for in a supportive environment. We have a full complement of staff and volunteers who work together to ensure that each client receives individualized, 24-hour care.

Position Summary: This position oversees the residential patient care provided at Rosedale Hospice.  The position is responsible for the planning and practice of residential hospice care. Issues related to clinical practice, hiring and supervision of staff, and initiating policy development are also key focal areas. This position represents Hospice Calgary (Rosedale Hospice) when working with Alberta Health Services.  (For full details see

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Models and promotes exceptional clinical practice and the belief in the philosophy of hospice care
  • Works with Hospice Calgary Leadership Team to ensure continuity of care and provide input into the growth of community hospice services
  • Coordinates the recruitment and evaluation of direct care staff
  • Provides supervision to ensure care is supported 24 hours a day, 7 days per week
  • Responsible for meeting with patients and family members when admitted and as needed throughout the duration of the patient’s stay
  • Liaises with AHS and other health care institutions and agencies
  • Maintains statistical database and contributes to measures evaluating Hospice Calgary services
  • Represents Hospice Calgary on the Hospice QI Committee, Accreditation Team, and other working groups as required


  • Degree in Nursing and registration in good standing with CARNA
  • CHPCN (C) designation preferred
  • 5-10 years’ progressive experience in hospice palliative care nursing, program development, and management
