Reporting to the Executive Director, the newly created role of Development Manager is responsible for providing leadership, planning, managing and overseeing all aspects of fund development for Lougheed House, including grants procurement, individual and annual giving, corporate sponsorships, partnerships, special events fundraising, and building the membership program. The role also includes management of special events and venue rentals at Lougheed House. The Development Manager is responsible for overseeing and protecting the interests and integrity of Lougheed House at all times.

POSITION DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with the Executive Director, the Development Committee of the Board, and Finance Manager to develop and implement the Development strategic plan including developing and improving Lougheed House’s existing plans, strategies and tactics, identifying needs for new programs, developing new stewardship strategies for donors and prospects, ensuring strategic alignment, effective use of resources and optimal fundraising outcomes in accordance with ethical fundraising principles. Develop and track proposals and reports for all
foundation and corporate fundraising. Provide monthly reports to the Executive Director, the Board and Finance Manager, which measures progress towards achievement of agreed upon
targets and milestones.

-  Develop and gain approval for the annual budget for the fund development program. Prepare regular reports on budgets; revenues and expenditures related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities. Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on fund development and recommend changes as necessary.

- Create and implement major gifts, annual, and planned giving programs. Oversee the planning and execution of all Special Events put on by Lougheed House. Manage and mentor the Special Events Coordinator who is charged with venue rental bookings, and sales. Ensure that all aspects of a successful event are coordinated towards a common goal.

- Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for
solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board or volunteers, as appropriate.

- Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations who are aligned with Lougheed House’s vision, mission and values. Identify and pursue new sources of funding.

- Create and implement strategies for donor development and cultivation, which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding base for Lougheed House.

- Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and solicit or coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board or volunteers, as appropriate.

- Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector and propose recommendations that would benefit Lougheed House.

- Develop strategies and tactics to audit and maximize membership.

- Establish and maintain high quality information management to build and maintain institutional memory of Lougheed House’s donor relationships and records.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-Secondary degree preferred with an emphasis or concentration in business, marketing, public relations or related field
• 5+ years of progressive fund development experience with an emphasis on building a relationship-focused major giving portfolio
• Knowledge and experience of special events planning and management
• Experience managing and mentoring staff and a team of volunteers 
• Knowledge of fundraising management principals and best practices and federal & provincial legislation affecting non-profit organizations
• Experience working in a museum or historic site an asset
• Member in good standing, Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP)
• A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset. Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) membership an asset.
• Fluent knowledge of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines regarding fundraising in Canada and specifically Alberta.
• Fluent in Alberta Gaming and Liquor (AGLC) regulations.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / COMPETENCIES:
• A demonstrated passion for history
• Demonstrated ability to successfully cultivate, solicit and close gifts
• Significant knowledge of fund development best practice with a demonstrable record of qualifying and developing donors through face-to-face solicitation
• Experience working in a capital campaign setting
• Proficiency working in Microsoft Office Suite, Filemaker Pro, or similar database management software
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience in case development and proposal writing
• Proven track record of strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and professionally while representing our organization
• Team-building skills in working with staff, as well as with volunteers and community members, to achieve identified initiatives
• Demonstrated past record of success in training, inspiring, engaging, motivating and managing a team of paid and voluntary staff
• Ability to build relationships and credibility with key stakeholders (Board Members, Donors, Members, Corporate Representatives, Government and Foundation Representatives).
• Demonstrated ability to promote and live the values of Lougheed House

Full-Time | Permanent (35 hours per week with some evenings and weekends, as required). A flexible approach is required to meet the needs of our donors, clients and business.
