Development and Communications Officer

Reporting to the Director, Donor and Community Engagement, the Development and Communications Officer plays an important role in contributing to the overall fund development and communications goals of EducationMatters. You will focus on the work of communications, fund development, prospect research and donor stewardship and handle the respective technical and administrative tasks to ensure success for the development and communications aspects of EducationMatters.

As Development and Communications Officer you will take a lead role in the communications of EducationMatters including the design/copy for all print and electronic materials, creation of stories (written and video) to celebrate our donors and impact, and manage the website, online donation pages and social media programs. You will be the primary technical and administrative support for the Fund Development and Communications team.

As a key member of the Development and Communications team you will support the fund development activities of EducationMatters by implementing the Annual Fund Development plan, performing prospect identification/research, developing and implementing EducationMatters’ stewardship program, and helping to develop and maintain a sustainable fundraising pipeline.


  • Post-Secondary education in business, communications or other appropriate field, or equivalent skills and transferable work experience
  • Previous experience in a fund development and or communications role; experience with an education focus an asset 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with website design and maintenance, video production and editing
  • Proven ability to balance priorities and interact with stakeholders of all types
  • Strong administrative, planning and reporting skills, combining breadth of thought and vision with careful attention to detail
  • Experience and proficiency with social media, desktop and web publishing software and applications (e.g.: Constant Contact, Adobe Premier Pro and Illustrator, Wordpress)
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Skill in the use of fundraising management software or other database (e.g.: Raisers Edge, Gifts for Windows and Foundation Information Management Systems - FIMS)
