Crisis Intervention Worker

RAYS Crisis Worker: Regional After-hours Youth Support

Who We Are:

Pathways Community Services Association is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions, and from promising practices in Human Services to support vulnerable children, youth and families.

The RAYS Crisis Worker has the unique and challenging role of providing after hours’ crisis response and support to youth and families involved with Alberta's Children's Services. The Crisis Worker works collaboratively with Children's Services Social Services Response Team to provide support in a variety of situations including, but not limited to, the transportation of children and youth between placements or upon apprehension, behavioral management, hospital supervision, and suicide and self-harm monitoring.

Individuals applying for this role, must be able to do the following:

  • Lifting, moving, or manipulating objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of sitting
  • Exposure to hazards associated with private homes, including exposure to allergens
  • Exposure to infectious waste or illnesses
  • High levels of stress and pressure
  • Flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and supporting patients

Hours:

  • Ability to work 1-2 shifts per week on the following days:
    • Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
    • 5pm - 9am OR 11pm-11am

  • Provide a consistently high standard of care and support for clients
  • Provide direct and comprehensive care and assistance to clients with specialized and complex needs
  • Ensure commitment to quality, client safety, and risk management initiatives
  • Protect the health and safety of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately
  • Prepare and submit accurate reports and records

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and competency required for this role:

  • Demonstrate ability to assist patients, family members, or other clients with concern and empathy, respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Dedication to safety measures and best practices
  • Ability to work rotating twelve-hour, sixteen hour, and twenty-four hour shifts
  • Ability to work with sensitivity towards the diverse perspectives of individual clients and community service providers, while meeting the objectives and targets of the department
  • Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations
  • Ability to interact and build relationships with youth and adults that may be either physically or intellectually challenged
  • Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people of different ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations
  • Knowledge of safe patient lifting/handling techniques

Qualifications and Education

  • Clean police record check + vulnerable sector
  • A recent child intervention security check
  • Degree or diploma in a field appropriate to the position
  • Relevant experience working with children and youth at risk
  • Valid First Aid or CPR certification
  • Valid ASIST certification
  • Other certifications or licences appropriate to the position
  • Possession and Use of a safe, reliable vehicle
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid registration or licensing as required by professional body
  • $2,000,000 liability insurance
