Coordinator, Marketing & Communication - Mat Leave

Job purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Coordinator, Marketing & Communications develops, coordinates and administers SAITSA’s website, app and student bulletin to maximize students’ awareness of the events, services, and objectives of SAITSA.

 

Core area of focus:

  • Identifies key target audiences and their needs, in order to plan, execute and evaluate multi-faceted marketing and communication strategies.
  • Daily updates, monitors and maintains SAITSA’s website and app, and makes changes as needed.
  • Discusses and plans web and app content strategy in conjunction with Manager, Marketing & Communications.
  • Oversees content and distribution of weekly student bulletin.
  • Acts as SAITSA’s Public Relations liaison and arranges media coverage for all of SAITSA including the Executive Council.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

Website & App

  • Conducts all website and app management including written and digital content, redesign as needed, SEO development and tracking analytics.
  • Aligns social media advertising with objectives set by each department with the Manager, Marketing & Communications.
  • Works closely with Manager of Marketing & Communications to ensure that strategic scheduling of website and app content aligns with content calendar.
  • Designs hierarchical page layouts for new programs and initiatives that enhance student experience and facilitate navigation.
  • Proofreads and edits all forms of written content, make suggested copy edits as needed for approval by the Manager of Marketing & Communications.
  • Leverages images and illustrations using adobe stock to create visually compelling webpages and works closely with the Graphic Designer ensuring all digital specifications are up-to-date.
  • Ensures all SAITSA websites align with the SAITSA brand and identity standards.
  • Works closely with Marketing Coordinator when developing digital campaigns across social media channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram; ensuring continuity throughout.
  • Develops web, app, and student bulletin reports to present at weekly MarCom meeting.

Public Relations

  • Sources vendors and acts as a liaison for Fall and Winter welcome weeks. Communicates timelines and deliverables to partners and ensures all contracts are signed prior to expo dates, then ensures all invoices have been sent according to contracts.
  • Ensures brand fidelity on all high-profile events such as, but not limited to: SAITSA Welcome Week, Elections, SAITSA Awards, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with external and internal media outlets and suggests story ideas as appropriate.
  • Organizes and provides annual media training for Executive Council, and delivers PR support to all SAITSA departments for all media inquiries.

Research

  • Implements market research plan as directed by Manager, Marketing & Communications.
  • Designs and utilizes customer driven methods (e.g. surveys, focus groups) and innovative merchandising and marketing to ensure that SAITSA services and operations are designed to meet the changing needs of students.  A minimum of one SAITSA survey (re: strategic direction) will be completed per fiscal year.
  • Assists with the collection of information and ensures the SAITSA annual report is published to staff, SAITSA members and public at large.
  • Manages and reports on SEO and Google Analytics monitoring.
  • Regularly evaluates web analytics and makes appropriate changes to increase traffic and efficiently disseminate information.

Human Resources and Administration

  • Assists Manager, Marketing & Communications with staff – hiring, training, scheduling & payroll.
  • Works alongside the Coordinator, Marketing with updates, monitoring and maintaining social media presence of the organization (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter)

 

Qualifications

Education 

Post-secondary education in a related field. Degree in communications preferred.

Experience 

  • 3 or more years of marketing and communications experience in a voluntary sector organization.
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Superior writing skills
  • Computer and social media savvy (familiar with Facebook Pixel)
  • Proficient with Wordpress,
  • Experience with menu board in mobile App software,
  • Familiarity in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator (Adobe Creative Suite)

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities 

  • Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector. *Specifically well informed with the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Knowledge of current industry challenges and opportunities.
  • Knowledge of project management and staying on budget.
