Coordinator, Group Homes

The Group Care Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the day to day operation of the program under their supervision. The Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of the program model and for effective integration of the program within the BGCC continuum of service and community. The primary goal of group care programs is youth safety with a strong focus on family reunification whenever possible and improving the outcomes for youth and their families.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Ensure support and supervision of program volunteers and practicum students
  • Ensure that program staff receives support while on shifts.  
  • Coordinate staff recruiting and termination when necessary.
  • Ensure that a thorough and complete orientation is provided for all new staff members.
  • Monitor staff members probationary periods and utilize this period for learning role expectations and responsibilities and for providing professional development opportunities.         
  • Set up and maintain staff scheduling (including vacation requests, leaves of absences and time sheets).
  • Provide staff members with support and encouragement for professional growth.
  • Maintains a positive, supportive and rewarding work environment.
  • Monitor, support, and assist staff with case management and household management.
  • Ensure that current best practices and model review is continuously reviewed to ensure optimal outcomes for youth and families.
  • Ensure that Calgary Child & Family Services and BGCC outcomes are monitored and met.
  • Ensure adherence to operational standards and funder expectations.
  • Consistently and intentionally demonstrate and uphold the principles and philosophy of the program.
  • Facilitate and provide support in building and maintaining family relationships.
  • Complete monthly reports on youth files with respect to accreditation standards.
  • Provide recommendations to the Manager of Residential and Treatment Services regarding staff salaries, program allotments and the yearly budget.
  • Adhere to the agency’s policies and procedures regarding donations and fund raising.
  • Manage an on-call rotation in an organized and responsive manner.
  • Participate in agency fund raising, special events and public relations opportunities as decided with the Manager of Residential and Treatment Services.

 

EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Degree or Diploma in the Human Service field.
  • 1 year of experience in supervisory positions
  • 3 years experience working with children, youth and families
  • Combination of Certificate and related experience may be considered
  • Experience in delivery of intervention programs, knowledge of CFS, and a broad knowledge of community resources and services is preferred.
  • Positive and effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, organizing, planning and analytical skills
  • Supportive team player and team builder
  • Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is  required
  • A current cleared child welfare record check and criminal record check with vulnerable sector search required
  • Class 5 driver’s license and acceptable driver’s abstract is required
