Community Outreach Facilitator

The Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet) is inviting applications for a work experience position based out of the Momentum office in Calgary, AB.

This position is offered through CCEDNet’s CreateAction internship program, which is the only national internship program that provides paid learning opportunities for young people to do community economic development (CED) in their own communities.

The successful candidate will work both with Momentum (a CED organization that delivers programs for individuals living on low-incomes) and Thrive (a CED network focused on promoting and advancing CED in Calgary housed at the Momentum office) to conduct outreach, research, and web-based writing on Community Economic Development.

Community Economic Development is a unique approach to place-based poverty reduction that simultaneously addresses social and environmental concerns while increasing economic opportunities for individuals living on low-incomes.


This program is funded by Service Canada and its intention is to give out-of-school postgraduate youth (15-30 years) who have a career focus in CED a relevant five-month work experience placement. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. This placement is fully subsidized by the Canadian CED Network. This position will provide an hourly wage of $20.00 with an average work week of 37.5 hours.


Reporting to the Community Economic Development Coordinator at Momentum, the Community Outreach Facilitator is primarily responsible for supporting the advancement of Thrive’s and Momentum’s CED research and communications. The successful candidate will also participate in peer learning activities to support the Canadian CED Network.


Asset Building Learning Exchange Conference:

  • Co-Lead the development of a database of asset building, financial literacy, and financialempowerment programs across Canada
  • Conduct outreach and promotion for the ABLE conference
  • Provide logistical support for the ABLE conference
  • Provide support to the local Financial Futures Collaborative

Thrive research and communications:

  • Research and interview CED initiatives and organizations in the Calgary area
  • Conduct online CED engagement and learning through the website and social media

Neighbourhood CED and Local Business Development:

  • Increase awareness and promotion of business development programs to identified
  • communities as part of the Strong Neighbourhoods Initiative
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of community enterprise development programs

Other Responsibilities (as necessary):

  • Provide logistical support for Momentum and Thrive community events
  • Conduct outreach and promotion at relevant community events


  • Post-secondary education in a related field of study
  • Excellent oral and web-writing communications skills
  • Experience researching and interviewing organizations/individuals
  • Experience utilizing social media for community-based work
  • Knowledge of community economic development theory and practice
  • Adaptable to a new fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Self-starter and takes initiative
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Word Press websites an asset but not required
  • Bilingualism (English, French) is an asset but not required


  • This position is based at the Momentum office in Calgary, AB and reports to the Community Economic Development Coordinator
  • Requires extensive computer use
  • 37.5 hours per week - involves overtime work at peak periods
  • Salary is $20 an hour
  • Some travel may be required
  • There will be a 3 month probationary period.
