Community Outreach Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Community Outreach Coordinator – Full-time, 35 hours/week

JOB SUMMARY

CLERC is seeking to ensure our agency meets the needs of young people who are searching for legal advice in civil law matters and to ensure that they are aware of their rights and responsibilities and the resources available to meet them. The Community Outreach Coordinator will work at a grassroots level within the city of Calgary to develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, agencies, schools, lawyers and community members. The coordinator will oversee outreach programming, educational presentations, and related program volunteers and will assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of all such programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Outreach Programming:

  • In conjunction with CLERC staff, develop a strategy for creating Calgary-wide community awareness of CLERC and its programs through relationship building with agencies, schools, lawyers and community members.
  • Implement the above strategy in order to ensure client and volunteer generation for CLERC.
  • Implement new and existing outreach programming including CLERC’s Legal Outreach for Youth (LOFY) and Identification Programs.
  • Maintain existing community and agency relationships by attending meetings, sitting on committees, and participating in community development work as requested and as appropriate.
  • Support CLERC staff in the evaluation of all outreach programming in order to ensure effective use of donor funds.
  • Participate in the development, and where appropriate, delivery, of educational presentations to stakeholders, community agencies, schools and volunteers.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for the board of directors, funders and others as required.
  • Participate on appropriate CLERC committees as required (i.e. Marketing and Communications, Events).
  • Additional responsibilities as required and assigned.

Outreach Program Volunteer Management:

  • In conjunction with CLERC staff, assist with the development and implementation of Volunteer Program, Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist with the development of volunteer opportunities related to outreach programming and other volunteer needs such as committee and office volunteer recruitment.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all potential volunteers for initial screening before referring the individual to the appropriate CLERC staff member - To include obtaining resumes, application forms and screening forms where necessary.
  • In conjunction with CLERC staff, assist with the creation and implementation of volunteer recruitment plans and orientation and training.
  • Supervise related program volunteers.
  • Maintain all volunteer records and input all data into CLERC database as needed.
  • Lead the development and implementation of CLERC’s volunteer retention and recognition program.
  • Conduct volunteer evaluations regularly and address issues as they arise.
  • Additional responsibilities as required and assigned.

Other Related Duties:

  • Support fund development staff in the preparation of Outreach Program funding proposals and grant applications.
  • Ensure funds allocated to Outreach Program are used in conjunction with funder agreements and support CLERC staff in records maintenance where appropriate.
  • Provide appropriate program reporting for funder and grant reports, board reports and other such reports as requested.
  • Prepare other documentation as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as required and assigned.

The Outreach Coordinator must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Plan, organize and initiate action related to Outreach Program development and implementation.
  • Network effectively with community agencies, schools, members, and other stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage responsibilities and time with limited supervision.
  • Have an enthusiastic attitude and commit to CLERC’s philosophy.
  • Work with flexibility in working hours and tasks, understanding that CLERC is a small non-profit organization.
  • Demonstrate and act empathetically with understanding and compassion.
  • Enjoy working with young people and volunteers.
  • Work both independently and in a team.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Outreach Coordinator must:

  • Hold a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or have equivalent education and experience.
  • Have knowledge of the youth sector.
  • Possess strong communication and relationship building skills including presentations and public speaking abilities.
  • Have experience working with computer and programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be interested in the legal system and the rights of children and youth.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Submit to a Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position will report to the Director, Programs and Operations and when appropriate to the Executive Director/Senior Lawyer.
