Community Outreach Advisor

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Calgary and Southern Alberta.  With over 35 years of solid community experience, 70 active programs, and comprehensive wraparound support, CCIS ensures that our services respond to the needs of ethnically diverse communities within Calgary and area. 

 CCIS, in partnership with Calgary and Area Children’s Services (CS) has established a Cultural Brokerage Program with the overall objective to increase collaboration, engagement, and partnership with culturally diverse communities in Calgary, and strengthen community capacity within Calgary’s multicultural communities.  To achieve this, CCIS is recruiting for the following position:

 Name of Position: Community Outreach Advisor

 Reports To: Coordinator of Cultural Brokerage Program

Terms of Employment: Full Time – 40 hours/week

 Program Description: The CCIS Cultural Brokerage Program (CCBP) is a team of diverse individuals made up of cultural brokers and community outreach advisor.  The cultural brokerage team is located in CS multi-service team locations across the City that have been identified as serving specific ethno cultural populations.  This particular position will provide training and education to promote and enhance cultural competencies within CS and community partners, and diversity familiarization to program staff. The position is also responsible for advising and creating service delivery and design based on the values of the client experience within which we work. 


 Initiate community outreach and provide communities with information about the Cultural Brokerage Program in order to set goals for collaboration

  • Engage communities through the provision of capacity-building activities
  • Ensure relationship building and action planning with diverse culture and faith communities
  • Connect Children’s Services (CS) with different ethno-cultural and faith communities
  • Educate communities on the mandate of Children’s Services and systems expectations
  • Act as the liaison between CS, families and communities
  • Assist families, and cultural brokers, to connect with their communities
  • Build cultural capacity of CS through education, workshops, meetings
  • Develop and deliver trainings for CS and other service providers
  • Ensure ongoing consultations with communities
  • Develop and execute an effective community outreach plan
    • Maintain exceptional relationships with CS, Brokers and communities
    • Support the objectives of the Family and Children’s Services Division throughcooperative interaction with fellow colleagues


  • Minimum of a Undergraduate Degree in a relevant field
  • Established facilitation and workshop design and delivery experience
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of cultural education programs
  • Understanding and appreciation of the complex needs of diverse populations
  • Knowledge of the various ethno-cultural and faith groups in Calgary
  • Effective and dynamic communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience and ability to collaborate effectively with the Community
  • Working knowledge of the settlement and integration process
  • Excellent organization skills and self-starting tendencies
  • Advanced technological skills
  • As travel is required the successful candidate must have a vehicle
