Community Development Team Manager

Calgary Sexual Health Centre is a nationally recognized, community-based organization delivering programs and services that work to normalize sexuality and sexual health across the lifespan. We have been leading the way in the areas of sexuality, healthy relationships, human rights, gender identity, sexual orientation, equality and consent for more than 40 years in the Calgary community. 


We are looking for a candidate who has a strong community development and leadership background. This position is responsible for leading the community development portfolio of the organization, which includes overseeing youth and adult community programming, counselling service and volunteer engagement. The community development team builds strong relationships and helps communities develop their capacities to take ownership and action around sexual health.


Reporting to the Director of Programs, key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading the Community Development team including hiring, training and ongoing mentorship of staff.
  • Leading annual strategic planning for the team, including curriculum reviews, training processes and establishing annual priorities.
  • Contributing to annual program evaluations and funder reports.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with community partners.
  • Participating in relevant community development activities, events and committees to build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders.
  • Participating in regular performance planning and reviews.


Desired qualifications include:

  • A combination of relevant experiences and/or related educational backgrounds.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
  •  Demonstrated skills and knowledge of community development approaches and demonstrated success working with communities, including the ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of trauma and violence informed care.
  • Ability and comfort working with diverse populations of youth and adults.
  • Knowledge and comfort with topics related to sexuality, sexual health, and gender and sexual diversity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team leader and enthusiastic member of the leadership team.
  • Commitment to organizational values and beliefs including the use of a pro-choice philosophy and commitment to anti oppressive practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle and be able to work flexible hours.
