Community Coach

New Heights School & Learning Services runs a unique specialized program tailored to preschool, school age children, youth and young adults with autism spectrum disorder, or similar learning differences. We are a program that utilizes the strengths and interests of each individual and family to address their priorities and developmental goals. The Transition to Adulthood branch of New Heights Home and Community Support (HCS) works with our students and their families through the transition from school to adulthood.

We are currently looking for one Community Coach/Community Liaison to work with our high school students and young adults, and to build connections within the school and in the Calgary community.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Community Coach/Community Liaison will:

  • Work with the school team to provide direct coaching to students in 1:1, small group, and full class sessions

  • Work with Transition to Adulthood Coordinator to determine effective ways to provide coaching to young adults in 5 key areas of support: Employment, Independent Living, Postsecondary Education, Social Environments, Self Advocacy

  • Engage, communicate, and support businesses in the Calgary Community to effectively plan for Work Experiences courses in the high school

  • Represent New Heights in the community, including resource fairs, etc.

  • Provide communication and support to the New Heights Parent Advisory Council

  • Available during school hours (8:15 am-3:30 pm) and with flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends


  • Post-secondary education (certificate, diploma, and/or degree) in an appropriate discipline

  • Experience working with youth/young adults with autism spectrum disorder or similar social and communication challenges

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in the ASD community an asset

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to be self-directed, flexible, highly motivated and to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Skill with Adobe programs an asset

  • A valid Driver’s License and the use of a vehicle to transport students
