The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of crime and increasing community safety through preventative and restorative justice practices. To accomplish these ends, we provide direct services to individuals at risk, advocacy for effective responses to crime with the individuals involved and education for youth and adults in the community.
The Adult Housing Reintegration Program (AHRP) is a new program to CJHS that was launched in April 2013. AHRP provides housing and intensive supports to individuals above the age of 18 who are chronically homeless; have repeat involvement with the justice system; and are frequent users of emergency, health, correctional and shelter services. Upon entry to the program and/or release from jail we work to house the individual as quickly as possible and continue with case management support working towards successful reintegration into the community. The AHRP team consists of 3 Caseworkers, Intake Worker, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Living Skills Support, Housing Coordinator/Locator and Program Manager.
The Adult Housing Reintegration Program (AHRP) Community Caseworker will work in an integrated and collaborative way with the AHRP Team, wider CJHS Team and the community to ensure clients on their caseload obtain housing, remain housed, get connected to appropriate services and successfully reintegrate into the community. This includes supporting the client to connect with community services including employment and education; support their attendance at relevant appointments; and assist with activities of daily living, recreation and leisure opportunities.
Reporting to the Adult Housing Reintegration Program Manager, this individual will practice client centered case management; build supportive community relationships; complete casework documentation; do data collection; and report outcomes. This is a mobile, community based position and requires a valid license and vehicle.
The successful AHRP Community Caseworker will have a post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (i.e. human services, social work, etc.) and will have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with the target population, preferably with 2 years’ experience in Housing First Case Management. Knowledge and experience of corrections is an asset.
This position is fulltime (37.5 hrs/wk) full benefit position.
