Communications Manager

Vecova is a leading edge registered non-profit charitable service and research organization that has been meeting the needs of persons with disabilities and the community-at-large since 1969. We provide a wide range of supports and services in Calgary and the Bow Valley Corridor for persons with disabilities so they may reach their fullest potential and benefit from the highest possible quality of life.

Vecova has an outstanding opportunity for an innovative and self-motivated team player to join our team as a Communications Manager. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Communications Manager will create and execute an agency-wide communications program for Vecova, raising awareness of the organization in the Calgary community. In addition, this position is responsible to ensure Vecova’s brand requirements are met and coordinate or assist with special events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, evaluate and oversee marketing, communications and media relations in a non-profit and social enterprise environment, including events, programs and services.
  • Select and direct suppliers for the production of print materials, on-line marketing and other relationship tools and promotional materials.
  • Work closely with program and development staff to research and develop integrated marketing and communications plans, and then work to coordinate the production and copywriting for a variety of mediums including websites, news releases, publications, speeches, video, event support materials, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the organization, to share, collaborate and ensure consistency and efficiency in our communications efforts.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Related post-secondary degree and minimally 5 years related marketing and communications experience - ideally in larger, complex non-profit organizations managing communications initiatives.
  • Knowledge of content marketing, social media strategy and channels.
  • Knowledge of marketing, publicity, media relations, event management, production (printing, design, web).
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, visual design and production and project management as well as effective presentation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in producing a variety of communication materials aimed at various audiences.
  • Knowledge of disability sector would be an asset.
  • Member of International Association of Business Communicators or Canadian Public Relations Society is an asset.
