Communications & Development Associate

Summary: This position provides administrative and team support for individual giving, events and communication that enable successful food/fundraising activities in the community. 


Primary Responsibilities: 

-Often the first point of contact for donor communication and customer service enquiries.  

 -Assist with data input and updates

-Update/develop content for websites or other communication channels as required.  

-Successfully support other team membersassist with tours and providing information to help coordinate people and resources for individual, third-party and in-house events. 

-Assist with, plan and/or support events including managing volunteers while ensuring financial guidelines are followed and donor stewardship is ensured.

-Active role in representing the Calgary Food Bank (may include public speaking, speaking to media, event presence). 


Tasks Performed: 

-Follow through with all policies and procedures outlined by the Calgary Food Bank and other authorities such as the Canada Revenue Agency. 

-Conduct tours and assists with appropriate training for volunteers. 

-Pick up fund or food contributions as a professional representative. 

-Assist in results analysis. 

-Assist with organizational initiatives, individual giving, food industry and other team members with donor follow up and stewardship.

-Proven ability to support the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans in alignment with department and organizational goals. 

-Strong ability to support relationship development with a view to maintain productive working relationships with teammates, volunteers, donors, media, food bank society members, general public and other corporate, charitable or government organizations. 


Education and Experience Required: 

-Undergraduate degree or a combination of education and experience would be considered. 

-3 years of non-profit and/or customer service experience dealing with a wide variety of people and/or the public.  

-Knowledge of the non-profit sector considered an asset.  

-Must have a valid driver’s license and own vehicle. 


Skills and Capabilities: 

-Project management abilities, attention to detail, solid writing skills and communication abilities with a wide variety of audiences and settings (one to one and potentially public speaking). 

-Effective research abilities (internet, library, print materials). 

-Computer skills including Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and the ability to learn new software programs. 

-An understanding of the nature and function of charitable organizations in Canada. 

-Experience with establishing, maintainingmanaging and developing community relationships. 

-Proven ability to achieve objectives, work under pressure and within deadlines both independently as part of a team. 



Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

Working conditions are normal for an office environment but may require occasional trips to the warehouse. Must be comfortable in changing work environments, standing or sitting for long periods of time and be able to lift 25 lbs. This is a full-time position and candidates must be open to working outside of normal business hours and weekends.
