Communication and Fund Development Specialist


We are seeking a Communications and Fund Development Specialist to support our dynamic agency on a part-time, contract basis. We offer a positive and supportive team environment that encourages holistic health and wellness. We invest significantly in learning and development opportunities for our staff. We anticipate this position will require 20 hours per week. We are willing to create a flexible work schedule to suit the successful candidate.


Pathways Community Services Association is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions and from evidence-based practices in human services to support vulnerable children, youth and families.


The Communications and Fund Development Specialist is a department lead and member of the leadership team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the following:

Designing and implementing our internal and external communication strategies and activities.

  • Take on the day-to-day management of media relationships, website and social media channels.
  • Help us complete and implement a rebranding project that will revitalize our presence in the community.
  • Guide planning and project management for a conference event for the spring of 2019.
  • Enhance our donor relations and help us build a network of supporters in the community.
  • Build a fund development plan and guide its implementation.
  • Write winning proposals and mentor others in this area.


 The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and competency required for this role:

  • Communication-  has to be sensitive to subtle nuances in language and culture because the job will involve communicating with a range of people across different mediums
  • Exceptional Communication- Has impeccable writing, editing, presentation and conversational skills
  • Writing Ability- You will be expected to write engaging content for Pathways CSA, which means having good attention to detail, and the ability to proof other people's work
  • Collaborates- proactively contributes ideas, seeks input, shares information, cross-checks the work of others, and ensures open pathways to the swift creation and delivery of messages.
  • Creativity – opportunities to be creative, not only in terms of writing, but also in coming up with new ways to promote Pathways and approaching new funders
  • Eagerness to work from an Indigenous perspective
  • Teamwork- Works cooperatively and effectively with others to reach a common goal.


At least 5 years’ experience in a marketing or communications role and the confidence to take on a leadership role in this area

  • Excellent communications skills in oral, written, and web-based modes
  • Project development experience for fund development or communications
  • Advanced graphic design skills, including the use of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Proven success in donor relations and fund development
