Who are we?  The Alex.  We are an award winning organization made up of change makers, forward thinkers and community builders.  We are changing the conversation around Health and Social Care. 

The Alex is a not-for-profit organization that has been operating in Calgary since 1973. The Alex provides services and programs to individuals and families who experience barriers to health and housing.  

Since 1973, our cost-effective programs have provided preventative care in a welcoming, easy to access environment, moving people from poverty to stability and from crisis to wellness.  Using a multidisciplinary team approach, we focus care on assessment, intervention and promotion of all aspects of health. We embrace a model of healthcare that is accessible, responsive and participatory. In addition to its two Health Centers, we run a Youth Centre, two Mobile Community Health Buses, one Community Dental Bus, three Housing Programs, a Breast Feeding Clinic, a Community Food Centre and a Bottles4Health Program.  

We are currently seeking a full-time Clinic Coordinator to work within the Youth Health Centre supporting the medical portion of the program and working alongside the drop-in and outreach portions.  The Clinic Coordinator will report directly to and work closely with the Program Lead of the Youth Health Centre. The Clinic Coordinator will coordinate, manage and support all medical functional areas within the centre.  They will support the provision of accessible, comprehensive, coordinated and continuous care. 

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible and accountable for optimized patient access and clinic office efficiency,
  • Provides support to all aspects of primary health care delivery within the Vision and Mission of The Alex,
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary learner opportunities,
  • Provide direct patient care to any area of the clinic when needed,
  • Liaise with community agencies as appropriate,
  • Represent The Alex on committees if required,
  • Engage with community in broad terms,
  • Provide tours and presentations about The Alex,
  • Promote a comfortable and safe medical environment,
  • Build trusting relationships with clients and staff,
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and safe environment at The Alex Youth  Health Centers,
  • Manage medical policies and protocols in collaboration with the Physician Lead and Program Lead
  • Management of IP&C for the Health Centre,
  • Provide oversight of maintenance and monitoring of clinic equipment. 


  • LPN currently registered with CLPNA,
  • Experience in Phlebotomy,
  • Management and leadership experience (2-5 years) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary roles and responsibilities within primary health care; supports healthy inter-professional collaborative practice,
  • Accepts direction as required,
  • Ability to address interpersonal conflicts using appropriate methods and organizational resources to support a highly functioning health team based on the values of mutual respect and trust,
  • Communicates in a clear, positive, professional demeanor, using good interpersonal verbal and non-verbal skills,
  • Ability to recognize and examine processes to ensure safe practice within a multi-disciplinary environment,
  • Strong working knowledge of Wolf EMR,
  • Experience mentoring and coaching of staff,
  • Must be comfortable working with clients using harm reduction, strength based, natural and logical consequences, and trauma informed care techniques as well as an understanding of anti-oppressive practice,
  • A passion for advocating for at-risk clients,
  • Firm boundaries yet able to effectively build relationships with hard to engage youth
  • Ability to effectively represent the organization,
  • Training in any of the following would be considered an asset: Applied Suicide Intervention Training, Mental Health First Aid, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, and Motivational Interviewing,
  • Able to take initiative and work independently,
  • Assertive, professional and positive, with an ability to lead and multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
  • Experience working with vulnerable youth, children and families is an asset,
  • Experience working within not-for-profit sector is an asset,
  • Candidate must be willing to have a child abuse registry and criminal record check
