Childcare Support Worker

Full Time – 37.5 hours/week


Who We Are:

The Brenda Strafford Centre encompasses a Second Stage Shelter and Transitional Housing Program (Progressive Housing), serving women and children seeking safety from family violence.  The centre operates from a client-centered and trauma informed approach that allows families to lead their care in a safe, secure, and supportive environment. We are currently seeking a Childcare Support Worker, who will provide collaborative support to children and their caregivers living at the Brenda Strafford Society.


The Childcare Support Worker provides high quality childcare services to families residing at the Brenda Strafford Society.  This position is responsible for day to day support of children in the Play Centre and on offsite trips.  The Childcare Support Worker is supported by the Childcare Team Lead and works in collaboration with other agency staff and volunteers.


The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

- Uphold a welcoming, inclusive, multi-age group environment and provide culturally sensitive support for families residing at The Centre

- Care for children from a child-centered, relationship driven, constructivist and child-directed pedagogical approach

- Respect all children’s capabilities by planning and implementing curriculum of an emergent nature based on the observed strengths and interests of the children

- Provide training, support and guidance to volunteers working within the Play Centre

- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work


The successful applicant will:

- Have an ELCC Diploma or relevant Degree in Early Childhood Development

- Have a minimum Level 2, Child Development Worker, or equivalent

- Have experience working with children in the field of family violence or other experience working with children

- Show knowledge of child development, appropriate guidance techniques, and experience learning through play

- Be proficient with Microsoft Office software

- Be able to maintain administrative and evaluative documentation

- Have a strong work ethic and commitment to delivering ethical, cultural and client –centered services to vulnerable populations

- Be able to work 12:30pm – 8:30pm Monday to Thursday and 9am – 5pm Friday
