Child & Family Support Worker

We are looking for a dynamic, creative and experienced professional to join our team.


52nd Family Resource Centre

Permanent, Full Time Position (35 hours per week)


The role of Child and Family Support Worker (CFSW) is to increase parent confidence and competence through educational interactions, coaching, and role modeling within programming at our Family Resource Centre located in Marlborough Park. The CFSW promotes healthy parent/child interactions, and builds relationships with and between adult/child participants in the Centre to enhance parenting skills and family functioning, facilitate parent learning, strengthen family cohesion, support child development and increase community connections. The CFSW works collaboratively with the team to ensure that the Centre environment provides high quality, developmentally appropriate, and safe learning opportunities for children and their parents.


Educational & Training Requirements

  • Diploma in an Early Childhood Education or Human Services field; degree preferred 
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level B
  • Understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood Education


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working children, newborn to age 5, and their parents in an early childhood learning or family resource centre setting
  • Experience with the Reggio Emilia philosophy and its implementation
  • Experience working in an Emergent Curriculum early learning environment with children aged newborn to five
  • Experience providing support to parents around child development, parenting skills and family functioning
  • Previous experience working within a Family Resource Center is an asset




Skills and Abilities

  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers
  • Experience facilitating Parent-Child group learning programs (e.g. Mother Goose program)
  • Understanding of the Strengthening Families approach is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management, and organizational abilities
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Creativity, energy and a sense of fun


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide parenting support and guidance to individual parents/caregivers regarding parenting concerns and strategies
  • Deliver a variety of Reggio Emilia inspired, developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for all child participants
  • Model positive parenting and respectful behavior management techniques
  • Facilitate Parent-Child group learning programs (e.g. Mother Goose, Triple P, etc.)
  • Complete developmental screenings with families (e.g. ASQ’s) to educate parents about child development and identify child developmental support needs
  • Work collaboratively to provide parenting, child development, and community resource information and referrals to parents, including making appropriate referrals to other Families Matter support services and programs as needed  
  • Distribute current parenting informational resources at the Centre (e.g. pamphlets, posters, books) for parents to read and discuss
  • Provide childcare for parents participating in agency group programming or classes
  • Provide a clean, safe, and well organized Centre environment for children and parents


Other Requirements

  • Must complete a criminal record check and a child intervention check with satisfactory results
  • Must have a driver’s license and a reliable vehicle


Salary: $42,000 per year
