Casual: Housing Support Worker, Ongoing Recruitment

The Agency                                                                                       The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of crime and increasing community safety through preventative and restorative justice practices. To accomplish these ends, we provide direct services to individuals at risk, advocacy for effective responses to crime with the individuals involved and education for youth and  in the community.

The Programs                                                                               Casual Housing Support Workers at CJHS may work in any of our three of our 24/7 Housing Locations (Raido House, Stepping Stone Manor and Windsor Park). Our adult and youth place-based housing programs support individuals leaving experiences of homelessness using a harm reduction, trauma informed approach. All programs offer 24/7 on-site client support.

The Position                                                                                      You will work within the client support team on-site at Stepping Stone Manor, Raido House and Windsor Park. Reporting to a Program Manager or Team Lead, shifts are available on casual basis only.

 Roles and Responsibilities will include:

· Assist with activities of daily living, recreation and leisure opportunities;

· Deal with routine and crisis situations, including strong de-escalation skills;

· Facilitate activities within and outside of the building and support clients in positive pro-social engagement, as they choose;

· Completing documentation and shift duties associated with the residence;

· Support case management and goal achievement of clients.


· Available for shift work, evening, overnight, weekends and holidays;

· Works within a harm reduction, trauma-informed, person-centered framework;

· Will work in any housing location.


· Combination of education and experience working with target population;

· Knowledge of justice system, Housing First, FASD, mental health, addiction and aboriginal culture.


All successful candidates for the above position will have to successfully undertake a Calgary Police Information Check (CPIC) and Child Welfare Information System Check (CWIS)
