For more than 30 years, Sagesse has empowered individuals, organizations and communities to break the cycle of violence by curating environments to heal and develop skills to lead safe, healthy lives. We work in more than 30 communities across Alberta – either directly providing service or partnering with agencies help deliver our programs. Our work falls into three categories; direct service programs, capacity building and education and advocacy: 

  • Peer support groups and mentorship for women who have experienced domestic violence, are at risk of being abused, or women that have been involved in sex work.
  • Capacity-building workshops to other organizations about the experience of domestic violence within LGBTQ communities.
  • Education to informal support networks about how to recognize domestic violence, respond (based on the situation), and refer to the appropriate supports.
  • The backbone agency for the Calgary Domestic Violence Collective (CDVC); a collaborative community response to support individuals, families and societies to live free of domestic violence.

We are seeking a Business Manager to join our team. The position, reporting to the Executive Director, requires an efficient worker with strong organization and problem-solving skills. This is a hands-on role that will lead the day to day administration of the agency. The successful candidate is a dependable self-starter who can juggle a number of tasks and projects, and demonstrates leadership as part of a dynamic team.


  • Business Administration Degree or Diploma or similar program
  • 5+ year experience in Business Administration
  • Engages in curiosity and vulnerability (Brene Brown)
  • Previous supervisory experience of full time staff and volunteers
  • Experience implementing organizational operations and procedures
  • Flexible, with a willingness to make changes as organizational needs change.
  • Effective written and verbal communicator
  • Ability to drive multiple projects forward, effectively leveraging all resources to achieve results        

Role & Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Work cooperatively with Executive Director and Business Consultant to create and maintain all budgets
  • Support preparation of monthly financials
  • Assure day-to-day financial activities including handling of accounts payables, invoices, bank deposits, cash flow and incoming donations, grants and other accounts receivables
  • Provide necessary documentation for the annual fiscal audit
  • Monitor, assess and report on Fund Development performance

Human Resources Management

  • Develop, maintain and oversee adherence to all Policies and Procedures
  • Ensure organizational adherence to legal rules and guidelines
  • Develop and maintain staffing and succession plan
  • Assure Payroll, Timesheet, and HR tracking is prepared and submitted to Business Consultant
  • Provide employee benefits administration

Office and Resource Management

  • Supervise administrative staff and volunteers including assuring performance management, project management and technical management as well as providing feedback, coaching, supervision, technical leadership and fostering teamwork
  • Supervise Fund Development Associate Develop and assure the execution of the fund development plan and communications plan, including annual fundraising event, conference, and casino.
  • Assure the maintenance of the yearly-calendar for program events, agency activities, due dates, and fundraising events.
  • Develop and assure the execution of the technology and telecommunications plan including ensure first level (on-site) and second level (off-site) technology support
  • Develop and assure the execution of the facility maintenance including ensuring ongoing issue management and resolution
  • Oversee the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies, lease agreements and service contracts of all equipment and systems
