Business Development Officer

Immigrant Services Calgary is seeking an experienced Business Development Officer to enhance the employment readiness of newcomers and provide bridging services to connect them with potential employers, with the goal of helping them find meaningful employment commensurate with their training and experience. This is a full-time position.


  • Network and build partnerships with local employers by cold-calling and visiting employers
  • Develop and attend events to connect with prospective employers
  • Work with the Senior Project Manager to develop and execute an effective outreach strategy targeting appropriate clientele
  • Based upon program eligibility requirements, recruit at least 50 employers to the program annually and meet the target of at least 80 work placements annually
  • Work with the Project Manager to prepare a  work placement evaluation report of immigrants and employers to increase the repeat business
  • Engage sector councils, professional user groups and prominent executives for project exposure
  • Provide continued support to existing employers and newcomers, update their employment status in the database and produce monthly and annual reports as per program requirements
  • Follow up with employers on a frequent basis and update team accordingly
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


  • University degree with minimum 2-3 years of professional work experience in a recruitment related field. Sales and human resources management/job placement experience will be an asset
  • Proven network of local employers. Strong networking and marketing skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills in English. Fluency in Chinese is an asset
  • Thorough understanding of the local Calgary labour market, education/training systems and resources, strong knowledge of employment issues and barriers experienced by newcomers
  • Updated knowledge of job search strategies and employment support resources
  • Passionate about creative selling and a solid closer
  • Well-organized, positive attitude, works well under pressure and is a proactive team player
  • Provide examples of work related to this job description
  • Advanced user of MS office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project and social media tools
  • Access to a reliable car and able to work some evenings or weekends
