Awake Overnight Family Support Worker

 

THE CHILDREN’S COTTAGE SOCIETY OF CALGARY REQUIRES

 AN ‘AWAKE OVERNIGHT’ FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER FOR BRENDA’S HOUSE

Brenda’s House is a residential program for homeless families that enables transition to housing using a “housing first” model of service. Brenda’s House has been in operation since February 2009, and provides shelter and support services to 14 families at a time. We are looking for experienced professionals with an empathic, non-judgmental view toward families with multiple needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and planning with families to assist them in their efforts toward housing.

The Family Support Worker - Awake Overnight position is scheduled as a condensed work week of four 10-hour overnight shifts, 4 on 4 off rotation. FTE .875.

Qualifications:

  • Completed High School Education.
  • At least one year completed towards a Diploma or Degree in a human services field.
  • Experience working in a residential setting or with homeless families or families with complex needs is an asset.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR level B.
  • Suicide Intervention Certificate

Job Purpose: This position exists to ensure that families receive support to obtain housing while residing at Brenda’s House.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a secure and safe environment for all families staying at Brenda’s House.
  • Ensure policies and procedures of Children’s Cottage Society and Brenda’s House are being maintained. 
  • Provide families support throughout the night including
  • Read Key Worker notes on families to be familiar with needs should a family need support. 
  • Interacting families who need support.
  • Providing child care respite when needed
  • Role models positive interactions and conflict resolution
  • Follow emergency protocols. 
  •  

     

  • Assist in the daily routines to ensure a safe, clean, healthy environment.
  • Floor checks
  • Assigned cleaning duties
  • Assisting in kitchen duties
  • Provide crisis intervention if needed.
  • Interact with children:
  • Provide childcare when needed to families outside of child care hours.
  • Record keeping:
  • Document relevant interactions with parents and children
  • Document data for evaluation purposes
  • Complete nightly reports
  • Participate in shift work schedule.  
  • Other responsibilities as requested by management.
  • All Successful Candidates must complete a Police and Child Welfare Check.
