The Agency

The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of crime and increasing community safety through preventative and restorative justice practices. To accomplish these ends, we provide direct services to individuals at risk, advocacy for effective responses to crime with the individuals involved and education for youth and adults in the community.

The Team

Delivered by a dynamic and interactive team the Adult Services of CJHS is comprised of the following programs: Reception, Emergency Intake, Employment Preparation/Training, Prison Services, Literacy, Adult Development Courses Facilitation and the Extended FASD Support Project. The Adult Services Team works together to provide coordinated services to clients and responsibilities are shared across the team.

The Program

The Prison Services Program is designed to provide direct assistance, guidance and support to individuals incarcerated at the Calgary Correctional Centre, Calgary Remand Centre and local forensic facilities. Individuals are assisted with release planning by being connected with appropriate resources to reduce the negative impact of incarceration and maximize the potential for reintegration success. Upon release, clients may continue to work with the Caseworker in the community.

The Position

Reporting to the Adult Services Manager, the Prison Services Program - Adult Reintegration Services Caseworker will manage a caseload of clients preparing for their release to the community and will respond to additional requests for assistance as needed. This individual will interview and assess client needs, assist clients to develop action plans, provide direct assistance, information and referrals, provide ongoing support and follow-up as required, complete casework documentation including data collection, funder and agency reporting. As a member of a cohesive Adult Service Team, this individual will interact regularly with team members and assist with the provision of cover off support in other program areas as necessary.

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary education in a relevant discipline, a Class 5 Drivers license and will have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with the target population. Experience working in a correctional setting will be considered an asset.

This position is fulltime (37.5 hrs/wk) full benefit position. Proposed start date of August 12, 2013
