Accounting Document Control Assistant – Summer Student

All employees have a responsibility to carry out the vision, mission, and values of Discovery House while adhering to all Agency policies and procedures.  Paramount to this responsibility is demonstrating a client-focused approach to all aspects of Discovery House operations and a willingness to cooperate with all Discovery House staff and volunteers in translating these emphases into the planning and delivery of all programs and services.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the Accounting Document Control Assistant will be re-organizing the filing system of the finance department making sure that all the team members have access to these files. The incumbent will also be creating a soft file structured storage and transfer all the hard files into soft copies. This Canada Summer Jobs position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Summer Work Experience Program.

Under the guidance and direction of the Director of Finance and Operations, the incumbent will be responsible:
•    To sort all financial department papers according to content, dates, significance etc.
•    Create or update records with new files and information
•    Store all paperwork in designated places securing the important documents
•    Enter paperwork into an electronic system either by data entry or by using optical scanners
•    Deal with all requests to access files within the team
•    Develop an efficient filing system to make updating and retrieving files easier
•    Follow policies and confidentiality dictations to safeguard data and information

•    Is 17 to 30 years of age
•    Is a full time student in 1st , 2nd or 3rd year of accounting degree and intending to go back to their studies in September 2018
•    Able to follow directives of the team
•    Exceptional organization skills
•    Comfortable with continuously changing environment;
•    Experience in a computer accounting software will be an asset
•    Willing to learn
•    A valid Canada background check is required
