Accountant

Connections Counselling and Consulting Foundation is a non profit agency that provides support and services to families in which a parent has a cognitive challenge. A part-time accountant is needed for finance and accounting functions for our $1.4 mm revenue organization.

The role reports to the Agency Director and requires from 10 to 16 hours per week covering all bookkeeping, reporting and budgeting functions. The accountant will have support from the office administrator.

Compensation is between $25 - $35 per hour depending on experience, and the role can be structured as employer/employee or contracted, with benefits to be negotiated.

Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping for all accounts, ledgers and reporting using Quickbooks, in compliance with charity/non profit accounting standards, regulatory and contract requirements
  • Semi-monthly payroll, monthly employee expense processing, vendor/bill payments, and invoicing from timesheets
  • Monthly financial statements and Board/management reports
  • Ensure bank account balances/bank reconciliations and other records are tracked
  • Prepare and support external Audit
  • Prepare other annual reporting (eg. Casino)
  • Prepare budgets and reconcile to actuals
  • Recommend systems and processes to improve smooth, timely management of agency, financial and other records

Qualifications

  • Accounting diploma/degree and non-profit accounting experience.
  • Detailed and accurate bookkeeping skills, proven analytical skills. 
  • Experience in Quickbooks and intermediate level in Excel.
  • Experience co-ordinating audits, and managing restricted funds (non profit accounting experience an asset).
  • Budgeting and forecasting skills and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with team of social workers, administrative support, and externally with funders, vendors, bankers and auditors.
  • Skilled communicator to present financial information for management use (business case, funder reporting, etc.).
  • Maturity and professionalism.
