Development Officer

Calgary Counselling Centre has experienced tremendous growth in building strategic community relationships and fundraising over the last few years.  We are looking for a seasoned professional to join our team who will contribute to our ongoing success and be a part of the exciting transformation moving forward.

Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer this role is responsible for the development of individual, corporate and foundation partnerships and generating revenue in support of the Centre’s strategic goals.  The Development Officer is a high energy, donor centric professional who will work within the broad strokes of a current development plan to support CCC’s growth strategy and two major campaigns.  This will involve continuing partnerships with committed individual, corporate and foundation donors as well as developing new relationships within the Calgary area.   To be successful in this role, working and contributing in a team environment is critical.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ability to identify and build a pipeline of major gift donors through cultivation meetings and/or conducting prospect research
  • Create strategies and proposals to present to potential major gift donors
  • Create stewardship plans to ensure partners/donors are kept engaged and recognized for their investments
  • Determine when to solicit foundations or other funding sources in alignment with priority projects and/or initiatives across the organization
  • Identify granting opportunities and develop major gift grant applications with support of an FD Coordinator
  • Work closely with and engage board and volunteer committees
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and fund development team in the integration and management of strategic events. 


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/ or 5+ years of direct experience in fund development/ donor relations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking and listening skills
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of major gift donors
  • Strong understanding of financial management and CRA guidelines related to charitable tax receipting
  • Ability to remain calm in highly stressful and ambiguous situations with clear decision-making and resolution skills
  • Access to transportation required
  • Membership with AFP
  • Exceptional inter-personal skills and the ability to work comfortably with CCC staff, volunteers, donors and other key stakeholder groups
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other database systems that support the work of fund development
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills along with the ability to work well with numerous interruptions, attention to detail in all tasks
  • Commitment to accountability in working within a charitable organization
  • Must pass Police and Child Welfare checks
